christmas 2022 sermon series b

If we were asked to name some Christmas-themed Bible passages, many of us would readily think of familiar nativity scenes in Matthew and Luke's gospels, or perhaps of Isaiah's prophecy of the child being born. One Bible book which is often overlooked when it comes to Christmas, though, is Hebrews. One of the main purposes of Hebrews as a whole is to help Christians to keep persevering in their faith, and the author equips his readers to do that by showing them quite how amazing Jesus, and his arrival and work on earth, really is. Our series in Hebrews, which we'll call "Why Christmas?", will help us to consider four different reasons Jesus came in the flesh:

Jesus came to reveal (Hebrews 1: 1- 4)
Jesus came to destroy (Hebrews 2: 14-18)
Jesus came to purify (Hebrews 9: 11- 26); and
Jesus is coming again (Hebrews 9: 27- 28).

My prayer for this series is that author of Hebrews would help each of us to fix our eyes on Jesus and be amazed by him this Christmas, whether for the umpteenth time, or for the first.
